BAPTISM OF AN INFANT OR YOUNG CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 6
God has blessed you and our Parish Community with a beautiful gift----your child. At Baptism we will celebrate our faith together and your child's initiation into the faith.
Active, registered parishioners who wish to have their child Baptized at St. Viator are required to participate in our TWO-SESSION BAPTISMAL PROGRAM. Expectant parents are also welcome to attend this program. Baptismal Preparation Classes for parents are held once a month in the Parish Center.  Call the parish office  for upcoming Preparation Dates.  If you are coming from another parish or to attend classes for out of state preparation please contact Beth Schill at the parish office. 702.733.8323. ext. 302

Photography is permitted; we ask the families to assign the camera to someone who is not directly involved in the ceremony (not the parent's or Godparent's.)
The Baptismal Certificate will be mailed to the parent's after the ceremony. Please store this document in a safe place, as it will be required when your child continues with other Sacraments.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament, a special sign which celebrates life as a Catholic Christian. The sign of Confirmation is unique because, as a sacrament, it seals you with the power of the Holy Spirit, which enables you to say "Yes" to the Christian life, to a personal relationship with Jesus, and helps you to share your gifts with the Church.
High School sophomores begin the process of readying themselves for Confirmation by doing community service in October. They build off that experience by attending confirmation sessions from October until April. In the spring, they spend a day together on retreat in preparation for their Confirmation.
St. Viator Parish Confirmation guidelines follow the diocesan requirements:
  • The usual time for receiving the sacrament of Confirmation is 10th grade or higher; Two years of religious education or parochial school immediately prior to reception of this sacrament is required;
  • ALL candidates, regardless of the school they are attending, participate together in a special program for Immediate Preparation which is described in a brochure that can be requested from the Church.
If you or someone you know is interested in Confirmation Preparation, call Rosy Hartz, at 702.733.0392.

Marriage Preparation

Each wedding at St. Viator is a very personal event. A wedding is one of those special moments in life when a couple gathers with all the people they cherish and proclaim what it means to be in love. Your wedding is not just a legal ceremony, but a sacrament and, therefore, a significant moment on your journey of faith. Thus, your wedding ceremony is much more than the exchange of marriage vows and the giving of rings. It is a sacrament filled with music, symbols, family, friends, and the rich tradition of our Catholic faith.
Everyone at St. Viator looks forward to the prospect of assisting you during this special time. We are here to help you as you prepare for this wonderful experience celebrating your love for one another in marriage and God's presence in your lives.
Engaged couples who wish to schedule a wedding at St. Viator can contact the Marriage Preparation Coordinator at the parish office at 702.733.8323, ext. 302 who will explain the administrative process of preparing for a Catholic wedding, assist you in selecting a date for your wedding liturgy.  An Introduction Meeting will be scheduled and the couple will receive a wedding information packet, which answers many of the bride and groom's questions.  The wedding date is usually set during the Introduction Meeting and we strongly urge you not to book your reception venue until a firm date for your wedding is established.
Depending on each individual couple, certain documents are required before the wedding and will be determined at your introductory meeting. An example of some of the required paperwork to marry is listed below.
  1. Marriage Registration Form
  2. Newly re-issued Baptismal Certificates are required from the church you were baptized at; copies must have the raised seal of the church issuing them and be dated within six months of the ceremony
  3. Affidavit for Freedom to Marry
  4. Copies of Legal Birth Certificate
The Diocese of Las Vegas requires couples to participate in the following marriage preparation programs.
  • PMI - During the preparation period, the priest or the marriage preparation coordinator will have the couple complete what is called the Pre-Marital Inventory. This inventory helps the couple examine their feelings and expectations concerning marriage. It should be noted that the priest working with the couple may determine that there is a question regarding the couple's readiness for marriage. He may refer the couple to a professional counselor for evaluation and assessment. Special Consideration: Persons under the age of 19 who wish to marry will be asked to receive individual evaluative counseling before the marriage can be arranged, in accordance with the policy of the Diocese of Las Vegas.
  • One Day Seminar - Group seminars are held three times a year, on a Saturday, at St. Viator. Topics covered are: communication, finances, sexuality, spirituality, marriage & family. The group attends the 4:00 p.m. parish liturgy where the priest recognizes the couples and blesses their engagement rings.
